The public is invited to the Christmas Open House at the Historic Carter House on Sunday, December 7, 2023 and Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days. This event is hosted by the Historic Carter House Society Inc. (HCHS) which is the 501(c)(3) non- profit organization that manages and operates the Carter House. Each room will be decorated in holiday décor from the past and the present. Tours will be given so our guests will learn about the history of the plantation, the only true plantation in Livingston Parish. In 1979, the Carter House was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was built between 1817 and 1820 by Mr. Thomas Freeman, a FMC, and has a rich and exciting history.
Santa Clause will be there to hear the children’s Christmas wishes and parents (and Grand Parents) are invited to take all the pictures they wish. Before everyone leaves we want them to enjoy some snacks after having taken in this beautiful house and its surrounding gardens.
Tickets will be sold at the door and will cost $5.00 for adults, with children under the age of 12 admitted free, as are HCHS members. Each ticket will be entered in a drawing for a door prize. The drawing will be held on December 17th after the tours are complete.
Memberships will be available at the Open House and we hope you will consider becoming a member. Memberships help the Historic Carter House Society Inc. preserve this wonderful piece of history, the only plantation in Livingston Parish. Annual Memberships are $30.00/individual and $40.00/family. The proceeds from the open house go toward restoration work to the Carter House. Also, once you become a member you will receive emails about all events that are open to the public. Members who rent the house for an event will receive a discount.
