The public is invited to the Christmas Open House at the Carter House on Sun., Dec. 10 and Sun., Dec. 17 at 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM both days. This event is hosted by the Historic Carter House Society Inc. (HCHS). Rooms will be decorated in holiday décor from past and present and Santa should be there for good girls and boys! On the tour you’ll learn some of the history about the plantation and it is the only plantation in Livingston Parish. We encourage parents to bring their children, or grandparents to bring their grandchildren, so they can experience a real piece of history on the tour. The house was put on the National Register in 1979 and was built between 1817 and 1820. Tickets sold at the door will cost $5.00/person or $10.00/family and each ticket will be entered in a drawing for a door prize. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free, as are HCHS members. Proceeds go toward restoration work and flood damage repairs to the Carter House properties. The house is available for special events and tours. The house is located in Carter Plantation, 30325 Carter Cemetery Rd., Springfield, LA 70462.
